Museum Exhibition - Slab City

Museum Exhibition Project
By Madelyn Bowling & Josiah Yeaton
The Project
For this project, we were tasked with creating a Museum Exhibition Layout using open spaces with a topic of our choice. We decided on a location: Slab City, California. Slab City is one of the 'Lawless Cities' or 'The Last Free Place,' in America, and the City has many unique characteristics. Throughout our research, we found many interesting facts about the location we will use in our pieces. For this project, we were asked to create a Title Wall, two Interior Spaces, and two Exterior Spaces that would be used in a museum exhibit.
Logo Sketches
We started with some very different ideas and ranges for the logo. However, we ended up settling on the bottom left sketch as our original layout for the logo.

Elements & Process
The process we went through was a battle of trial and error in finding the correct way to balance each mockup. It involved pulling elements from each mockup and original element design to create the perfect exhibit.
Topics for Museum Exhibition Spaces
With all our research, we found several topics to choose from. We decided to emphasize Everyday Life and Sights to See.

Museum Exhibition Narrative Literature
For our narrative literature, we created a design that was a book-like handout that was informational and visually pleasing. The information inside included more in-depth information about the rules, tourist locations, and the crime of Slab City. It also included information on the Museum itself.
The handout also has a map of Slab City and a poster collage on the back for visual interest.
